OPENAI BOLSTERS CREATIVE TEAM WITH HOFFMANN AND MCKECHNIE

OpenAI appoints Julia Hoffmann as Head of International Creative and Andrew McKechnie as Head of Business Creative to drive global brand storytelling. With expertise from Google and Apple, they aim to make AI innovation accessible and culturally resonant, supporting OpenAI’s rapid expansion and user growth.

OpenAI has appointed Julia Hoffmann as Head of International Creative and Andrew McKechnie as Head of Business Creative, marking a significant boost to its global brand strategy. These newly created roles underscore OpenAI’s commitment to expanding its creative capabilities and reinforcing its position in the AI landscape.

Julia Hoffmann, formerly Executive Creative Director at Google’s EMEA Creative Lab, brings over a decade of experience in crafting global brand narratives. Based in London, she will oversee international brand expression, driving creative execution across campaigns, experiences, and regional markets. Hoffmann’s expertise in blending creativity with cultural insight will be pivotal as OpenAI scales globally. “Global adoption requires a creative foundation that respects context and culture,” Hoffmann said, emphasizing OpenAI’s focus on intentional, impactful storytelling worldwide.

Andrew McKechnie, joining as Head of Business Creative from Airco, where he led marketing, will spearhead creative strategy for OpenAI’s Developer, Startups, and Enterprise teams. His experience at Apple and Verizon has honed his ability to translate complex tech into compelling narratives. “Exceptional design and storytelling bring humanity and relevance, making emerging innovation feel inevitable,” McKechnie noted.

Both leaders report to Michael Tabtabai, VP of Global Creative at OpenAI, who praised their “incredible creative pedigree and deep category experience.” This move aligns with OpenAI’s recent high-profile campaigns, including ChatGPT’s Super Bowl debut and a human-centric brand campaign with Isle of Any.

With over 800 million weekly ChatGPT users and 1 million businesses leveraging OpenAI’s tech, these appointments signal a shift toward nuanced, culturally aware storytelling. As Hoffmann and McKechnie embed creativity at the core of OpenAI’s expansion, the focus is on making AI accessible and resonant globally.
