Swim with the pigs!

Its a pig beach, yes, you heard that right.

Officially known as the Big Major Cay and unofficially known as the Pig Beach, it is an uninhabited island that is located in the Exuma, the Bahamas. This island takes its unofficial name because it is majorly populated by feral pigs that reside on the islands and around the surrounding shallows.

Nobody has an exact idea on how the pigs came about the islands but there are lots of stories the locals believe. One of the being that the pigs are said to have been dropped off on the Big Major Cay by sailors who wanted to come back to the islands and cook the pigs as a meal. The sailors, however, never returned but the pigs survived. Another story suggests that the pigs were survivors of a shipwreck of some kind and managed to swim to the shore and never left. The most logical story story behind the pig beach is that the pigs are a part of a business scheme to attract more tourists to the Bahamas.

The pigs are fed by locals and tourists and the island is unofficially known as Pig Beach by the locals. You can swim with the pigs and play and feed them.
