The World Design Business Organization (WDBO) is launched by Singapore’s President, introducing the Design Power Index (DPI) featuring 40 companies with SGD$140B value, operating in 60 countries, to track design’s impact on economic growth and social impact, with India as the first country to adopt the index.
The World Design Business Organization (WDBO) was launched by the President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, at a ceremony attended by 350 business and design leaders from around the world. The launch marked an important milestone for the Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS), which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The WDBO is a global initiative that aims to promote the value of design in business and society. It was launched in partnership with Consulus, a global impact investment and creative change firm. According to Global Chair Su Eing Chee, the WDBO is starting out strong with several key initiatives.
One of the key initiatives is the launch of the inaugural Design Power Index (DPI), a report that showcases 40 companies and organizations that have successfully harnessed the power of design to drive economic growth and social impact. These companies have a collective value of SGD$140 billion, operate in 60 countries, and employ an estimated workforce of 140,000. They will be tracked over the next two to three years to study how they exercise the power of design.
The DPI report was launched at the ceremony, and it features companies that have made significant contributions to the field of design. The report is a testament to the growing importance of design in business and society.
Another key initiative is the presentation of the WDBO World Council, a group of esteemed leaders who will help shape the future of design. The council includes notable members such as Pradyumna Vyas, Kimming Yap, Marvin Wee, and Franco Lodato, among others.
The WDBO is also expanding its reach, with plans to introduce the DPI in India in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Global Chair Chee Su Eing will sign a memorandum of understanding with CII to bring the DPI to India, marking the first country to adopt the index.
The launch of the WDBO and the DPI report is a significant milestone for the design industry, highlighting the growing recognition of design as a key driver of business success and social impact. As the design industry continues to evolve, the WDBO is poised to play a leading role in promoting the value of design and shaping the future of business and society.
