Swati Bhattacharya, a veteran advertising leader known for shaping some of India’s most impactful brand narratives, has stepped down from her role at Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL). She had been heading Lightbox Creative Lab — the company’s in-house creative agency that she joined in September 2024 to lead brand storytelling, digital innovation and content strategy. Her resignation will officially take effect on January 1, 2026.
With a remarkable career spanning more than three decades, Bhattacharya has held leadership positions at some of the country’s top advertising agencies including FCB Ulka, Dentsu India and JWT. Widely recognized for bringing a deeply human and emotional lens to brand communication, she has been associated with several acclaimed campaigns over the years — especially those that blended culture, purpose and brand voice with sensitivity.
During her tenure at Lightbox Creative Lab, Bhattacharya was entrusted with elevating Godrej’s communication approach by steering its creative direction from within the organisation rather than via traditional agency models. Her exit marks a key transition for GCPL at a time when brands are increasingly developing in-house creative ecosystems for faster, more integrated content creation.
While the company has not yet announced her successor, industry observers suggest that Bhattacharya’s next move will be closely watched, given her stature not just as a creative leader but as one of India’s most influential voices in purpose-led brand storytelling.
Her departure also signals a moment of change in the evolving relationship between in-house brand labs and legacy agency systems — a space she has uniquely straddled with her experience across both worlds.
