Newly formed immersive experience and entertainment agency Supergiant recently supported OzHarvest’s Unite to Feed Australia LIVE concert at Sydney’s ICC Theatre, providing creative direction and show design. Hosted by Johanna Griggs and Jimmy Rees, the concert aired as a telethon on Channel 7 last night, raising much needed funds to support OzHarvest to fight food insecurity in Australia.
The Unite concert featured Sir Bob Geldof along with some of Australia’s most iconic and up-and-coming musicians, with Supergiant volunteering its expertise to deliver stage and lighting concepts and design, along with over two hours of screen content. Inspired by Live Aid, the concert idea was born from Ronni Kahn AO, OzHarvest’s founder, to mark the organisation’s 20th year, but more importantly, to shine a light on Australia’s hidden crisis: food insecurity, and raise crucial funds needed to support those going hungry.
Supergiant Co-founder and Managing Director Heath Campanaro says: “Not only was Unite an incredible opportunity to develop our full concert experience as Supergiant, it was a project that we were all deeply invested in. OzHarvest does important and inspiring work every day of the year ensuring people don’t go to bed hungry. We knew that making the show spectacular would mean that more people would be inspired to donate — and what better place to pour our energy and creativity!”
Supergiant Creative Director Simon Connell says: “We loved every second of this amazing project. Thanks to the generosity of CVP Productions and the support of the team at the ICC Theatre Sydney, we were able to deliver an amazing stage and lighting concept, then our designers created 18 different content and lighting scenes inspired by the songs and the artists unique styles.
“We worked with Michael Burton to light the show, and had the brilliant team at Eat the Elephant supporting with technical direction. The overall show was EP’ed by Mark Sutcliffe. It was an awesome team and the combined creativity and passion for the project made it a joy to be part of.”
On working with Supergiant, OzHarvest founder Ronni Kahn says: “No words can describe how we all felt when we saw the show come to life in rehearsals. We could never in a million years have imagined that we could have staged such a beautiful concert experience and the creative vision from the team at Supergiant was at the very heart of that — we are so grateful for the magic they helped us create.”
Campanaro adds: “First Glastonbury, now Unite with OzHarvest — it’s been an extremely fulfilling first few months for us at Supergiant. We have some very exciting new experimental and immersive projects in the works, and hopefully many more music-led projects in 2025 and beyond!”
