Legendary Indian Filmmaker Shyam Benegal Passes Away at 90

Shyam Benegal, the visionary filmmaker who revolutionized Indian cinema with his compelling narratives and sharp social commentary, passed away at the age of 90. Benegal breathed his last at Mumbai’s Wockhardt Hospital, where he had been admitted to the intensive care unit shortly after celebrating his 90th birthday on December 14. His daughter, Pia Benegal, confirmed that he had been battling chronic kidney disease for some time. He is survived by his wife, Nira Benegal, and daughter, Pia.
