Festive Flavours Take Flight: Air India Express Serves Onam Sadya in the Air

In keeping with its brand promise of connecting people, places, and cultures, Air India Express is bringing the warmth and flavour of Onam to the skies with a specially curated ‘Gourmair’ festive meal on its international flights to and from Kerala and Mangaluru. Passengers travelling between August 24 and September 6 can pre-book this limited-edition Onam Sadya through the airline’s award-winning website, airindiaexpress.com, or mobile app, up to 18 hours before departure.

The thoughtfully designed in-flight experience recreates the joy of Kerala’s most cherished festival, with the Sadya served on a banana leaf in elegant custom packaging. Drawing inspiration from Kasavu, Kerala’s timeless golden-bordered textile that embodies purity and tradition, the meal box reflects the airline’s ‘Tales of India’ initiative—an ode to India’s vibrant heritage featuring more than 50 regional textiles and patterns.

For an all-inclusive price of INR 500, guests can savour an authentic spread of Steamed Matta Rice, Nei Parippu, Mixed Vegetable Thoran, Erissery, Avial, Kootu Curry, Sambhar, Injipuli, Mango Pickle, Banana Chips, Shakara Varatti, and to complete the festive indulgence, the quintessential Payasam for dessert.

With this offering, Air India Express not only celebrates Onam but also creates a memorable way for travellers to experience Kerala’s traditions at 30,000 feet above the ground.

As the largest carrier linking Kerala to the Middle East, Air India Express operates around 525 weekly flights, connecting guests seamlessly to key destinations such as Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dammam, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah. The airline also extends strong connectivity between Mangaluru and the Middle East, enabling thousands of travellers to return home and celebrate the season’s festivities with their loved ones.

In a tribute to Kerala’s timeless elegance and artistic heritage, Air India Express has taken its ‘Tales of India’ initiative a step further by adorning one of its newest Boeing aircraft, VT–BXM, with a striking tail art inspired by the traditional Kasavu motif. The golden-bordered textile, symbolic of purity and craftsmanship, serves as a proud ode to the artistry and cultural richness of the region.

Complementing this celebration of tradition in the skies is the airline’s signature in-flight dining experience, ‘Gourmair’. The thoughtfully curated menu offers an appetising blend of hot meals, light bites, indulgent desserts, and regional as well as global favourites. Passengers can relish delicacies such as Awadhi Chicken Biryani, Vegetable Manchurian with Fried Rice, Mini Idlis, Medu Vada with Upma, and more.

With a wide variety of vegetarian, poultry, eggetarian, vegan, healthy, and diabetic-friendly options, ‘Gourmair’ ensures there is something to suit every taste and dietary preference, delivering a dining experience as diverse as the guests it serves.
